Where Morgans Walked In Woodstock

In the springs of 2007, 2008 and 2010 I was fortunate enough to be asked to help mentor a history program for the fourth grade at the Woodstock, Vermont elementary school. My subject has been the history of the Morgan horse and what it has meant to the local community over the last 200 years. It has been one of the best things I have ever done. Please take a look below and meet these wonderful kids and let them tell you what they learned in their own words. ~ Laura

Meet the 2007 kids! From left to right here's Brian, Sam, Kerry and Jill. There are all in the fourth grade with Mrs. Seigler and Mrs. Kurash at the Woodstock Elementary School. They are climbing a ladder built in the early 1800's in the hayloft of one of the original barns here at High Brook Morgan Horse Farm in South Woodstock, Vermont.

The challenge was to find a way for these 21st century kids to connect to the history of a horse born 200 years before they were even thought of and the impact that one horse had on our community and our country. Sometimes the best place to start is in the hayloft!
